a day in my studio
Ever wonder what it’s really like behind the scenes at my handmade jewellery studio, Culu HQ? Well, pull up a chair (a wibbly wobbly one, probably covered in clay smudges) and let me give you a little peek into a typical day in my studio. Spoiler alert: it’s not all glamour and creativity – there’s a lot of admin, a fair few cups of coffee, and some random emotional moments (I’m a complete sap). But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Organised Chaos
I usually start my day with a strong cup of coffee and a scroll through my to-do list, which has probably been rewritten about four times already. I like to get the not so fun stuff over and done with first (ever heard that story about eating the frog?! Google it!) Once the admin is out of the way, then it’s straight into the fun stuff – mixing colours, conditioning clay, and figuring out which mad idea from my head I’m actually going to try to make work. I always have a few pieces on the go at once, which means the studio looks like an explosion of half-baked earring prototypes most of the time. But that’s the beauty of it – organised chaos is where I usually reside!
Playlists and Post Runs! 🏃♂️
Mid-morning is when I usually hit my flow. The music is on (currently obsessed with a playlist that jumps from Grizzly Bear to Fred Again and everything in between), and I get properly stuck in. Whether I’m sanding a batch of bold statement earrings, photographing new pieces, or packing up colourful little parcels for the post, it’s hands-on from start to finish. I know I’m doing something right when I catch myself whistling while I work! 😁
By the end of the day, I’m usually covered in dust, there’s a trail of clay behind me, and I’ve taken about 37 photos of earrings in various positions trying to get the light just right. It’s hard work, but I flippin love it – because every part of this little business means something to me and it still blows my mind every day that I get to do this.
Big Love,
Lou xx
